It's became quite a dismissive term but utility player is just the name for a person who can play many positions. People nowadays see it as a back up player who can fill in multiple positions when players are injured.

Aribo is naturally a CAM but can play, CM, RM, LM, ST and even LB. So he is technically a utility player in that he can play pretty much everywhere without losing his influence on the game. It's just It's a term that is quite dismissive now. The modern term is more adaptable? I think

Seems there is interest in Thijs Dallinga from France. Quite like the look of this guy - really appears to have an eye for goal and we do need goal scorers into the team. If the fee of £2m is true then it's not exactly eye watering money either. Need to see if I can find the story again.

I'd have high hopes for Colak to be a striker that comes in and scores regular and important goals for us.

If we can get him for around what we sold Itten for it would be a shrewd move.

We absolutely need something special in the right forward and centre midfield area on top of that though.

I think the story is that Ukrainian/Russian players were effectively free to sign for another team up to 30/6, then they had to revert to their original clubs.

I've no idea if they've updated that - presumably they have, since that clause will soon be rendered irrelevant. May also be related to the number of players ripping up their contracts in Russia.

You'd think our total summer spend will come in under £10m so this sale is you'd imagine vital to GVB putting his mark on the team.

Hoping for one of the strikers this week, but it's still early. I think people forget that those Nations League games pushed everything back, whether our targets were playing in them or not.

Just the usual.. just shows from today that aiming to have players in for going to Portugal is more important than today given internationals have the week off.

I’m struggling to think of many, at all.

It’s why I liked Aribo as the left 8 under Gerrard, because he could provide the additional attacking threat. Drive with the ball, take men on and could score.

Gundogan is genuinely the only B2B midfielder I can think of that scores that level of goals, KDB too obviously, but he can play pretty much anywhere in midfield. Ward-Prowse, as well.

Proper B2B mids like Kessie or Barella don’t tend to get those number of goals.

Have we had a proper midfielder getting 10-15 goals a season in the last 50 years, out with Albertz and Ferguson for one season?

I think there’s a lot less emphasis on a goal scoring midfielder in the modern game, where players have more specified, specialist roles in a team.

They generally don’t exist, especially at our level of the shopping mall.

Most of players lack one thing to make them top level , that’s why they’re at rangers. Helander would be a top defender if it wasn’t for his pace, Tav top right back If it wasn’t for defensive lapses. You get the gist.

There’s not many in the top level football at all and there’s even less at the level we play/buy at.
