Celtic FC will face legal action “within weeks” over systemic sexual abuse at its feeder club, The Times can disclose.
Lawyers representing 20 abuse survivors confirmed that they had informed the Parkhead club that court action would begin imminently after an independent review into sexual abuse within football, commissioned by the Scottish Football Association, said it was satisfied that Celtic FC and its feeder club were “inextricably” linked at the time when the abuse took place.
The review said: “If the relationship and history between the youth football club and the senior club was so shared, so closed and so inextricable on positive achievements then when alleged sexual abuse of young players formed part of the history of one then it too formed part of the history of the other.
“A shared heritage is not confined to trophies, victories and celebration. It also extends to defeats, failures and deficiencies.”
Four senior figures at Celtic Boys Club have been convicted of molesting dozens of young players over three decades. While expressing “regret and sorrow” for the victims, Celtic FC refused to accept responsibility for the abuse, insisting that Celtic Boys Club was an entirely separate organisation.
Patrick McGuire, a partner with Thompsons Solicitors, said: “We are at the end of the road now. Celtic are on notice that the first raft of court summonses will be served on them in the weeks ahead.” Mr McGuire claimed that Celtic’s intransigence had left him with no other option but to sue for compensation.
He said: “I have been attempting to engage in meaningful discussions and correspondence but this has not been met in time by Celtic’s lawyers.”
Mr McGuire described the review commissioned by the SFA as the final compelling evidence. “This review commissioned by Scottish football’s governing body, which has a complete panoramic view of how the sporting set-up exists, says that Celtic FC and Celtic Boys Club were linked and were part of the same family,” he said.
“We have further evidence that backs that up from public pronouncements, articles in [the official magazine] the Celtic View and the investigations that the Celtic FC board undertook into the boys’ club.” Celtic have “nowhere to hide and we will see them in court”.
Last month a former youth player was awarded compensation from Celtic FC for the abuse suffered from Jim McCafferty, 73, a former Celtic FC youth team kit man who worked for Celtic Boys Club. The abuse took place when both were employees of Celtic FC.
Last month Celtic FC, which has started an internal investigation into the scandal, criticised Mr McGuire: “The cases should be pursued through the legal process and not the media, yet Mr McGuire appears to be more interested in writing press releases than in corresponding with our insurers or their lawyers. We have said clearly and publicly that we have enormous sympathy for all victims of historic abuse.”
Celtic FC did not respond to a request for comment yesterday.

The terms of reference for the Review are: To consider whether or not and to what extent the Scottish FA was aware of the matters highlighted and now brought to its attention; To consider what steps were taken by the Scottish FA during the relevant periods in relation to the protection of children brought to its attention at that time and to identify any failings or deficiencies on the part of the Scottish FA in that regard; To consider what steps were taken by its members and/or affiliated and/or associated organisations, either at the time of them being made aware or subsequently, and identified as relevant to the alleged incident(s) and to those concerned. This will include responses, decisions and actions either taken or omitted; and, To consider what lessons have been learned by the Scottish FA and its members and/or affiliated and/or associated organisations since those incidents took place and following any investigations that have taken place to ensure that the risk of abuse is reduced and where possible eliminated.
Martin Henry was appointed as the independent lead of the Review. Martin is a qualified social worker and his professional expertise is in the investigation and assessment of child sexual abuse and in working with men who have problematic sexual behaviours, including those who offend online.

Firstly,whilst you mention you have contacted UEFA & SFA in relation to the child abuse,which is welcome ,but as yet none of footballs governing bodies have actually stepped up to the plate ,looked at all your convoluted articles ,sub articles and sections and actually demanded action to be taken against this club for 40 years of historic child abuse,iby enforcing your policies,which this club has clearly breached by its crimes and bringing the game into grave disrepute ,t is a WORLDWIDE SPORTING SCANDAL ,to which you are all guilty of harbouring,facilitating and enabeling to happen...we,the footballing public demand punitive actionby you,the removing of operating licences would be a start,followed by expulsion from European football competition or football as a whole for the historic sex offences at least.
Secondly,my main complaint to you was in relation to your reporting group called FARE ,which raised a few concerns on how biased and unfair they are in reporting matches across Europe involving certain clubs in particular....a complaint you seem to have completely ignored ,so I would welcome your comments on that complaint please.
On a footnote,the SFA and GLASGOW CELTIC FC are not to be trusted to do the right thing ,our governing body ,the SFA ,employed many of the paedophile harbourers from celtic fc ,who knew of this sexual abuse scandal over the years ,yet covered it up ,namely Peter lawwell ( who was financial controller at celtic ,when payments of £1m were paid to one of the convicted paedophiles jim torbetts company ) & jack mc ginn ( ex SFA president ,who was TOLD ABOUT THE CHILD ABUSE CRIMES COMMITTED IN AMERICA but chose not to report it to police and then spun a web of deceit to cover it up) .To date,the SFA and now UEFA are all hiding behind this recently compiled SFA report as their “human shield” ,this report is all well and good for today and the future,but what we need and are demanding is severe and punitive punishments handed down to this club for its historic offences and bringing justice to the victims of the past.

I appreciate your efforts but no way will he respond to you. That would bring him into the equation where he has to defend the bheasts. Still, it's good to put them under the microscope as it might just make them a bit more wary about sticking their heads above the parapet and go into print to attempt to minimise and normalise the mentally challengeds vile behaviour.

I watched your interview with scotlands first minister Nicola Sturgeon on your programme on Monday 2nd September with great interest.You are one of the few ,I have seen to stand up to her non stop diatribe of independence this that and the next thing,you gave her not a minutes peace and actually got her hackles up,which was great to see.
Given that,I am asking you to intervene or assist on a subject ,which has been doing the rounds for over 40 years in Scotland,this subject has been covered up by various individuals for reasons unknown,it has been denied by the parties concerned and totally ignored by our press journalists as a whole,bar one ( marc horne of the times) ,it has been also totally ignored by government ministers to date by thewir failure to acknowledge the victims or instigate a full and independent public inquiry into the matter.
The matter of serious and grave concern is the historic sexual abuse of youth players and employees ,which has taken place at GLASGOW CELTIC FC over the past 40 years ,yes 40 years piers.The youth players were part of the celtic boys club,who were a feeder club to the main team and proudly wore the Glasgow celtic strips,blazers etc and trained and played matches within the Glasgow celtic fcs properties.
Over the 40 years of abuse,there have been 7 criminal convictions of coaches,kit men and chairmen of the boys club,as well as official club photographers,the main paedophiles jailed being JIM TORBETT – boys club coach ( jailed twice now,after being RE-EMPLOYED by celtic fc to re-offend) , JIM MC CAFFERTY – kit man , FRANK CAIRNEY – boys club coach ( also currently under police investigation in Kearny,USA for sexual abuse crimes committed there ) ,GERALD KING -ex chairman of celtic boys club ,JOHN CULLEN- official club photographer ( stash of over 250 nude photos of children found in his store cupboard inside the ground).
Now, you wouldn’t believe that a club would re-employ a paedophile to allow them to re-offend again but it did,they also covered up the American sex abuse by way of some cock and bull story of the coach resigning due to work pressures ,when in fact,they had hatched a cover up plan,to get the parents to sign an NDA in exchange for their silence and their boy an opportunity of first team football...despicable and disgusting.
The kit man ,jim mc cafferty had links to barry bennell and there is strong evidence to support,that they operated an “exchange” of youth players on footballing trips ,there is also strong evidence of celtic youth players being taken abroad to play in “ficticious” football tournaments ,where it has been stated in public,that at one tournament,the players were instructed to phone their parents and state that they had beaten real madrid and tommy burns ( deceased ex player) had scored ,when in actual fact,there WAS NO TOURNAMENT AT ALL,it was indeed,just a rous to get players away ,to allow the coaches to abuse them.These coaches abused their players in various countries worldwide and it was all covered up by the directors and management at celtic fc.

Their chairman PETER LAWWELL ( whe seems to have influence over everything in media and footballing circles in Scotland) ,stated that they had carried out a “secret” internal investigation into the historic abuse ,now hwy would he do that,if the boys club had nothing to do with them? And why secret,the results of this investigation should be made public for all to see,if in fact it did take place.
The mere fact he announced the investigation,broke all London stock exchange rules and financial regulations,as they failed to inform the London stock exchange,as this would’ve had a major impact on their share price and any potential or current investors.
We have been lobbying our local MPs and MSP’s ,as well as senior SNP government officials such as NICOLA STURGEON AND HUMZA YOUSAF ( masquerading as justice secretary for Scotland) as well as others,CALLING FOR AND DEMANDING that a full and independent public inquiry into this vlub and its historic sexual abuse crimes is conducted but as yet,sturgeon and co have completely ignored all our calls and have even ignored the victims by refusing to meet and discuss the issue with them.
We even have one MP , JAMES DORNAN ,who had a son who played for celtic boys club ,come out in the paper and state “ he knew there was abuse going on,but never knew it was on this scale” ,how could any human being,who knew his child was placed in a vulnerable position ,continue to let him be placed in danger and then ignore the abuse and fail to report it to police?,this is an MP,an elected member of parliament ,a person who is supposed to serve the public,when he can’t even serve his own son.
Please piers,take up this case and assist us in bringing justice to the 100s of victims and if not,could you please pass it onto omne of your investigative journalists,who can assist.

I watched your interview with scotlands first minister Nicola Sturgeon on your programme on Monday 2nd September with great interest.You are one of the few ,I have seen to stand up to her non stop diatribe of independence this that and the next thing,you gave her not a minutes peace and actually got her hackles up,which was great to see.
Given that,I am asking you to intervene or assist on a subject ,which has been doing the rounds for over 40 years in Scotland,this subject has been covered up by various individuals for reasons unknown,it has been denied by the parties concerned and totally ignored by our press journalists as a whole,bar one ( marc horne of the times) ,it has been also totally ignored by government ministers to date by thewir failure to acknowledge the victims or instigate a full and independent public inquiry into the matter.
The matter of serious and grave concern is the historic sexual abuse of youth players and employees ,which has taken place at GLASGOW CELTIC FC over the past 40 years ,yes 40 years piers.The youth players were part of the celtic boys club,who were a feeder club to the main team and proudly wore the Glasgow celtic strips,blazers etc and trained and played matches within the Glasgow celtic fcs properties.
Over the 40 years of abuse,there have been 7 criminal convictions of coaches,kit men and chairmen of the boys club,as well as official club photographers,the main paedophiles jailed being JIM TORBETT – boys club coach ( jailed twice now,after being RE-EMPLOYED by celtic fc to re-offend) , JIM MC CAFFERTY – kit man , FRANK CAIRNEY – boys club coach ( also currently under police investigation in Kearny,USA for sexual abuse crimes committed there ) ,GERALD KING -ex chairman of celtic boys club ,JOHN CULLEN- official club photographer ( stash of over 250 nude photos of children found in his store cupboard inside the ground).
Now, you wouldn’t believe that a club would re-employ a paedophile to allow them to re-offend again but it did,they also covered up the American sex abuse by way of some cock and bull story of the coach resigning due to work pressures ,when in fact,they had hatched a cover up plan,to get the parents to sign an NDA in exchange for their silence and their boy an opportunity of first team football...despicable and disgusting.
The kit man ,jim mc cafferty had links to barry bennell and there is strong evidence to support,that they operated an “exchange” of youth players on footballing trips ,there is also strong evidence of celtic youth players being taken abroad to play in “ficticious” football tournaments ,where it has been stated in public,that at one tournament,the players were instructed to phone their parents and state that they had beaten real madrid and tommy burns ( deceased ex player) had scored ,when in actual fact,there WAS NO TOURNAMENT AT ALL,it was indeed,just a rous to get players away ,to allow the coaches to abuse them.These coaches abused their players in various countries worldwide and it was all covered up by the directors and management at celtic fc.

I think the law firm represents hundreds of victims. But they have prepared 20 of them for trial. So their are 20 victims that are about to sue. They have used the term test case a few times. So I think that is the confusion.

I'm not sure the mhedia are confused. They know it is 20 test cases but that gives them an excuse to play down the severity of it all.
These 'test cases' will probably be the most compelling and the hardest for Celtic to defend. Thompsons will be using them to establish precedent. If they are successful and if the awards are significant and public then I think we might see an avalanche of claims over and above the ones that are known about.

Two people convicted were full on Celtic FC employees. 4 were affiliated with the boys club. By stressing the 4 at the boys club it downplays that there was a ring operating across the Celtic "family."

I’ve had a lot of posters pm me recently reference the situation in New Jersey. This has been posted previously but for the benefit of the posters who haven’t seen it, then this is the current situation reference the authorities stateside.
This information was recently brought to my attention. The Kearny Police Department Detective Bureau is reviewing this information and is in consultation with the Hudson County Prosecutors Office. I am not able to provide any further detail or information regarding the investigation at this point in time.

When you respond, I would suggest listing the convictions one by one.
I would then add the phrase:
"I am at a loss as to why you would attempt to minimise the historical problem of child abuse at Celtic by deliberately understating the number of convictions both at the Celtic Boys Club and by individuals employed directly by Celtic FC. These types of cases take to prepare and even more so when we consider the (potential) numbers involved. As you say hopefully this is the start of it coming to fruition.

Based on the results of that trial, I'm sure they had tims on that jury! And I'm also sure they will make sure to ban Rangers fans and NOT ban any tims from being on a jury presiding over any of these cases.
