Playing devils advocate but we didn't win a European final, if for example we won our 6th Champions league game to take us to the knockout round of the Champions League, are you saying that would be "worse" than a 3-0 home loss in said corresponding fixture v Lyon? (Which ultimately facilitated the UEFA cup final run)Love this team but they will surpass Walter’s when they get to a Euro final!
First of all, 9-3 is 12 playersMcGregor (2008 version)
Tav
Goldson
Cuellar
Barisic
Davis (2008 version)
Ferguson
Kamara
Kent
Roofe
Morelos
So 9-3 in favour of the current side.
I agree with most of what you are saying but in a historic sense it is winners and runners up that are recorded not last sixteen or quarter/semi finalists.Playing devils advocate but we didn't win a European final, if for example we won our 6th Champions league game to take us to the knockout round of the Champions League, are you saying that would be "worse" than a 3-0 home loss in said corresponding fixture v Lyon? We need to get to the CL and progress to the knockout round of course.
But for me, that would be every bit as big an achievement as our run to Manchester, even if no where near as exciting.
Helander is better IMO.
Similar types of defenders, but Helander is better with the ball - but that could be because of the different eras.
Wait for silverware. Then we can ta
ill put our team on par with the 92/93 squadYes this team are a far better squad/ team, stands out so much, getting to a euro final does not make you a better all round team, circumstances and luck play a huge part.
He was, I think Helander is betterCome off it!
Cuellar was absolutely colossal for us.
I love helander but I genuinely believe Cuellar was one of the best defenders in europe that season, he was world classHe was, I think Helander is better
Cuellar was told he had to test himself at a higher level if he wanted to play for Spain, he ended up playing right back for Sunderland.I love helander but I genuinely believe Cuellar was one of the best defenders in europe that season, he was world class

He was brilliant for us, and brilliant business.
I think Helander has the same skill set but is also better on the ball, admittedly the game has advanced so much even in 10 years.
That’s true, he certainly wasn’t your stereotypical Center half.Im just talking about the 1 season not his career, that 1 season there wasn't many better siege defenders around
Not in 2007Ferguson is the first name on the team sheet
No he wasn't. And in any case a 2007 Barry Ferguson still walks into the team. Not in 2007
miles past his peak
He still walks into our current side, playing a deeper role with all his injuries - he still walks in comfortably. Not in 2007
miles past his peak
Team perhaps, not miles.....but not squad. This squad are absolute miles behind Walter’s team.
It's a no contest for anyone who understands the position. Cellular is quite simply one of the most accomplished defenders ever to wear our colours. End of.Come off it!
Cuellar was absolutely colossal for us.
If we had the same quality up front we would have been eufa cup winners that season. No doubt about it , the man was that good.I love helander but I genuinely believe Cuellar was one of the best defenders in europe that season, he was world class
Big shout, that.Helander is better IMO.

No doubt he was a different level in 03 but he was still a class act in 07. He'd definitely be in my side mate. Davis Kamara Ferguson. Good luck anyone in Scotland trying to get the ball back off those 3.2000-2003 Barry was several levels above the 2007 version of Barry Ferguson
He was still a very good player but was definitely past his peak in the strict sense of the term . Injury robbed him of reaching those heights again.
Went with today's team. I think there would be a minor battering of the 2008 side
We faced Stuttgart, Lyon and Barcelona twice that season, Werder Bremen, Sporting, Fiorentina, the same
The only team who really "battered" us was Lyon and it took a player who would go on to lead the line of attack for Real Madrid for the next 10+ years to do it, very, very, very few teams battered that side, they stayed in the fight in the vast majority of games they played, and even did so in the game we were battered.
Ferguson would be our best midfielderNot in 2007
