12m in 2000 would be 20m plus in today prices so we definitely didntThe current guys earn at least two or three times the wages and have just reached a European Final. We have just sold a player for double our record outlay too.

The benefit of being slightly older is that we have enjoyed watching so many Rangers teams and players coming and going. So maybe the younger fans should respect our judgement and opinions a bit more rather than calling us Rangers Da's which is pathetic patter.
The way we defend corners Hateley would destroy them.Domestically Smiths early-mid 90s team beats any later era. They had the skill to destroy the jobbers but also the grit and determination to match them for effort and physicality.
Advocaat’s first 2 years gave us our best European side. The CL group with PSV, Valencia and Bayern is the best I’ve seen us.
There are 1 or 2 current players who could’ve played in those sides but generally the earlier teams were of a higher standard.
In particular, prime Hateley would embarrass the current defence.
If you get to make up random hypotheticals then surely someone else can make up same random hypothetical to counter your claim. The way we defend corners Hateley would destroy them.
4 Players from our past could probably beat our current team.
Greig, Gazza, Laudrup & Hateley.
Greig passes to Gazza, goes on a mazyt run, slips it to Laudrup, flys down the wing & crosses for Hateley to head it home.
All day long lol
Surprised to see no Davie Cooper in the OP squad.
I was being sarcastic. If you get to make up random hypotheticals then surely someone else can make up same random hypothetical to counter your claim.
I was going to say I get to claim every player in the future in my counter scenarioI was being sarcastic.
The original idea is ludicrous, which is why I hate things like this & who's better Pele or Messi
I don’t think it changes as drastically as some people like to make out. Souness said people make out that attacking fullbacks are a new thing YT he played in Liverpool sides where fullbacks scored in European Cup finals for example.Football constantly changes and most people change with it. The Guardiola style football will eventually pass and a new style will emerge.
British fans love a tackle and get a bit impatient if the ball doesn't get forward quickly enough.
its a football discussion forum, its good to talk about football rather than shareholders, taxmen, child abuse, retail deals etc.I was being sarcastic.

We’d be a much better side with the team of yesteryear and current methods. We had players who talent wise could have been real world beaters, but a lot of them loved smoking, drinking and shite food to their downfall on European competition.I wonder how much impact the improved fitness and recovery of current players would have.
I’m 38 and our current Euro form is the best in my lifetime. Consistent results and good performances. The last time we were embarrassed was Progres and that was 5 years agoI disagree Advocaats first two years were our best Euro side.
This team beat better sides, Advocaats team failed against teams we would expect to beat now (Kaiserslautern/Strum Graz etc).
They played lovely football, got some good one off results but ultimately failed when the going got hard
I was referring to opinions on standard of Rangers players of the past and standard of football of the past because we’ve witnessed it live. A comment like the one your refer to is ridiculous no matter what age.Yeah, because opinions like this — Ryan Kent lacks a football brain — really shines a positive light on the more seasoned FF user.
Played over 100 games and had spells where he just looked like he was playing a different game.Fantastic player. Very underrated when it comes to great players that have played for us.
Especially pre Marseilles.Played over 100 games and had spells where he just looked like he was playing a different game.
Rangers have always been the fittest team in the land. The 9 in a row team would've wiped the floor with this team. Football was tough twenty years ago too.I wonder how much impact the improved fitness and recovery of current players would have.
So wit ur meanin mate is a clued up fan v a clueless fan basicallyMy era as well! I was talking more about the Rangers Da vs football hipster rather than the team of old vs now.
"Get it forward" is the kind of the thing you get from the usually less informed fan. The guys at Ibrox who shout "just hit it" at any point, or want a more direct ball forward instead of patient play.
It's not a modern thing. It's not a new vs old fan. It's a less informed vs informed fan. The Rangers Da has always been at games, has always had folk rolling their eyes with their opinions. Just now because football is so stat focused it seems like a young vs old thing.
We were utterly turgid and embarrassing in Europe just three weeks ago. And probably against lesser opposition than we faced in 94-96. Not that I am defending what we had to suffer back then.Yeah they did at times.
Its made out we played amazing football all the times with Gazza and Laudrup where as we were utterly turgid at times and embarrassing in Europe
Sometimes there is nothing wrong with getting it forward a bit quicker. We were getting penned in and giving the ball away needlessly in the first 15 minutes of the second half on Tuesday night for example. My era as well! I was talking more about the Rangers Da vs football hipster rather than the team of old vs now.

That the team we went through against? We were utterly turgid and embarrassing in Europe just three weeks ago. And probably against lesser opposition than we faced in 94-96. Not that I am defending what we had to suffer back then.
Sometimes the just hit it shout is the right choice and we choose the wrong option. That's poor play not a clueless fan. Keeping possession is fine as long as it leads somewhere. Sometimes we don't make the most of shooting opportunities when we should because we don't have the creativity to pass them up.So wit ur meanin mate is a clued up fan v a clueless fan basically
And your point is?That the team we went through against?
Aye?
A can see the point in people sayin get it foward if ur drawing at home way some spl team or shoot if your on the edge of the box a don’t hink that’s got anything to do way rangers das n modern fansSometimes the just hit it shout is the right choice and we choose the wrong option. I think fitness, diet and nutrition, recovery, training, sports science is far superior now. A better team then? Yes. Fitter? Not a chance.Rangers have always been the fittest team in the land. The 9 in a row team would've wiped the floor with this team. Football was tough twenty years ago too.
Trying to figure out what your point was to be fairAnd your point is?
Absolutely this. It's not something to take serious, just a poke at old fashioned views of the game I think.I think the rangers da patter is mainly aimed at guys who shout “for %^*& sake get it in the box” when Borna takes a touch at the half way line, as opposed to ALL older fans.
As good as Cooper was there's no doubt there's a nostalgia around him. Very inconsistent and nowhere near the level of Laudrup as some people compare him to.Do I qualify for being a rangers da. I'm 34 and have 3 weans.
But all the old misty eyed pricks talking down the current era team who just got to a final compared to having Cooper score v Valleta.
I'm sure Alfie, Helander and Ryan Jack agree.I think fitness, diet and nutrition, recovery, training, sports science is far superior now. A better team then? Yes. Fitter? Not a chance.
Most people I know consider BL to be the greatest player we have ever had.As good as Cooper was there's no doubt there's a nostalgia around him. Very inconsistent and nowhere near the level of Laudrup as some people compare him to.
You made the point that some of our stuff in Europe in the Gazza and Laudrup period was turgid and embarrassing. Absolutely no argument from me on that score.Trying to figure out what your point was to be fair
Somebody else said this modern squad would have won 15IAR even though every team in the league bar the Scum is far poorer than they were back then. You made the point that some of our stuff in Europe in the Gazza and Laudrup period was turgid and embarrassing. Absolutely no argument from me on that score.
However, there's only one way to compare the eras then. And that'll be if the current squad prove on Wednesday that they are good enough to get into the CL and then we'll see how they fare in the biggies' playground.
The worst.Rangers Da’s is utterly honking patter.
McLeish and Miller better than Gough and Butcher?Somebody else said this modern squad would have won 15IAR even though every team in the league bar the Scum is far poorer than they were back then.
Aberdeen for example had McLeish and Miller who would probably be the best CH pairing in this league by an absolute mile.
Read the post again ya dickMcLeish and Miller better than Gough and Butcher?
Yeah, because we never had injuries during 9IAR.I'm sure Alfie, Helander and Ryan Jack agree.

15iar? They spunked the league last year with 6 points of a lead.Somebody else said this modern squad would have won 15IAR even though every team in the league bar the Scum is far poorer than they were back then.

The disparity in financial terms has completely changed European level. Back in the 90's we were one of the richest clubs in Europe. These days, along with various other well known names from the past, we are way way down the financial pecking order and the gap between us and the top teams is vast. You made the point that some of our stuff in Europe in the Gazza and Laudrup period was turgid and embarrassing. The only full strength team we played in an OF match during our nine was the first one. The 5-1 game.Yeah, because we never had injuries during 9IAR.
The point I was trying to make was barring the Scum (even they were better than their current lot from about 6 onwards) every single other team were far better than they are today.15iar? They spunked the league last year with 6 points of a lead.
No one is disputing this. The disparity in financial terms has completely changed European level. Back in the 90's we were one of the richest clubs in Europe. These days, along with various other well known names from the past, we are way way down the financial pecking order and the gap between us and the top teams is vast.
That's my point mate. We had guys who had to recover from tough games and be ready to go again back then too.Yeah, because we never had injuries during 9IAR.
I wonder how much impact the improved fitness and recovery of current players would have.
